ALLENDALE councillors have identified areas where maintenance is required in the wake of recent floods.

And this includes a stretch of road near Allenheads where road safety could be an issue.

At the latests meeting of Allendale Parish Council, Coun. Nick Howard said: “Driving from Allenheads, when you get to the s-bend at Studdon, there is a culvert that has dropped on the left side of the road.

“If someone dropped a wheel into it, I think it could flip a car clean over.”

Northumberland county councillor Colin Horncastle said he would make sure highways officials were aware of the matter.

He also said work needed to be carried out at Catton to safeguard properties from the Catton Burn if it floods in future.

Ditches and gulleys in Catton also needed to be cleared out, Coun. Horncastle added.

Coun. Geoff Lee stressed that Station Road on the approach to the village was another area which required attention from the local authority.
