PREPARATIONS for this year‘s Allendale Agricultural Show got under way in glorious sunshine this week.

Organisers descended on the showfield at Riding Haugh on Monday to begin constructing sheep pens and marking out the ground ready for show day tomorrow.

“We’re having a bit of a reorganisation this year to make sure the marquee for the new evening event is nearer the bar,” explained one of the event‘s secretaries, Dani Henderson.

A post-show celebration will kick off in one of the marquees at around 5pm, with live music from local band, 3 ‘til midnight, with the aim of raising as much money as possible to make a donation to the Stay Strong Stu fund.

Grounds conditions for the show should be perfect.

“We’re very lucky that the cricketers who use the field have done a lot of work to improve the drainage,” said Dani.

Sheep classes, a dog show, industrial tent, arts and crafts, trade stands, food stalls, tug o‘ war and terrier racing are among the attractions on offer.

Equine events get under way from 8.30am, with the rest of the livestock classes and events getting under way from 10am.
