A PALE ale brewed in the North Pennines has made it through to the finals of a national beer competition.

Pennine Pale, brewed by the Allendale Brewery, is one of 26 beers from the Society of Independent Brewers’ (SIBA) North-East region which have been selected for a place in the national finals taking place at BeerX, SIBA’s flagship event.

There will be a total of eight cask beers, eight ‘small pack’ (bottled and canned) beers, and 10 craft keg beers in the competition, with the overall gold champion winners being announced at the evening awards ceremony on March 16.

“SIBA’s beer competition represents the very best in British brewing across all formats, from traditional cask and bottled beer to the growing number of craft canned and kegged beers,” said SIBA managing director Mike Benner.

“Having made it to the top of their regional competitions, these beers are already winners, but the final national judging which takes place at BeerX is designed to find the very best of the best.”

The BeerX Festival of Beer, where 300 different beers, including those in the competition, can be enjoyed by the public, takes place at iceSheffield in Sheffield from March 16-19.
