FOODIE fun in Allendale has helped serve up £2,300 in support of the Stay Strong Stu campaign.

Caterer Christine Hutchinson, from Allendale, cooked up the plans for a gala gourmet evening at the village’s Golden Lion pub.

Joining Christine in the kitchen was her brother Douglas Field. The triple A chef travelled from North Wales for the event.

The menu was drawn up as a celebration of food from the Tynedale area as well as Wales.

Christine put her efforts towards fund-raising after hearing about farmer Stuart Ridley’s brain tumour.

“Stuart’s dad grew up in Sparty Lea and so did I; we lived within half a mile of each other,” she explained.

“My daughter is about the same age as Stuart and it really brought it home to me. You can’t comprehend how they must be feeling, it’s such a dreadful thing and for someone so young. It makes you aware cancer can get anyone.

“I’m thrilled to bits with how well we were supported and every little bits goes towards helping someone.”

Fund-raisers were able to use the venue and facilities free of charge by the Golden Lion, with waiting staff working unpaid for the cause. Ingredients were donated by Allendale’s WHM Butchers and Castell Howell Foods in Cardiff.

Over 30 guests attended the evening and, following the meal, enjoyed an auction conducted by local farmer Michael Stonehouse and a raffle.

Christine also organised a tombola in Easter which raised £500, and the money went towards a final total of £2,300.
