A COMMUNITY business which serves the Allen Valleys has made a £2,000 donation to Tynedale Hospice at Home.

The independent Allendale Co-operative Society was formed in 1874, and has a long-established store in Allendale Market Square.

Representatives from the society attend the annual Co-op Retail Trading Group charity awards dinner, in Manchester, where independent stores are invited to nominate local organisations to benefit from the funds raised.

At the dinner, which took place in December, Allendale Co-op nominated the hospice, which supports people with life-limiting illnesses.

The society’s Jane Brown said: “Allendale Co-op prides itself in being able to support local causes throughout the year, but the funds from this one annual event provide a real boost to donations within the community.”

In recent years, the annual event has enabled Allendale Co-op to support a number of local good causes.

These have includes local schools, Allendale Sports Club, Allendale Medical Practice and Allendale First Responders.
