ON Saturday, Music in Allendale is hosting a concert to commemorate the life of Rowena Winfield who died early last year after a lengthy illness.

Rowena was a nationally-recognised cellist who played first desk in several of England's top orchestras. She was also a founder of Music in Allendale.

It's in St Cuthbert's Church, begins at 7.30pm, and will be performed by her Romanian violinist protege, Balint Szekely, with his pianist wife, Mariko Kondo.

IT'S bingo time again at Sinderhope on May 27, at 7.30pm. Robert Philipson, of the High Forest Community Centre says: "For the three lucky people who won the three non-existent prizes last month, there'll be a better outcome this time as there is an exciting prize theme coming up, 'Europe, In or Out!' I hope this clears things up!

MAY 28 looks pretty busy! There's a fund-raising plant sale and coffee morning in the Heritage Centre at Allenheads in aid of the High Forest Show.

As well as plants for the garden, you can also stock up on cakes, bread and books. There's a raffle too with fabulous prizes. All this and coffee! The High Forest Show, this year, will be on September 3.

IT'S also the St Cuthbert's Church Hall coffee morning on May 28. I'm not sure about the time, but around 10am is a fairly safe bet!

AND again on May 28, Keenley Methodist Church is hosting lunch with pies, peas and trifles from 11am until 2pm. Everyone's welcome.
