THERE seems to have been a little confusion about the dates for ‘Bogstock’ at the Carts Bog.

I can confirm that the event is on Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25.

ALLENDALE First is the group trying to secure a future for the former first school.

AT LAST week’s parish council meeting, it was unanimously agreed to spend funds on improving the surface in the Market Place adjacent to St Cuthbert’s Church which has been in such poor repair for a long time.

Councillors are also hoping to arrange funding for a full relaying of the cobbled area of the Market Place with flat, safe paths to the two pubs. Let’s hope work starts soon!

ANYONE visiting Old Man’s Bottom lately may have noticed a handsome new resident: a carved, stone pack horse.

It marks the Black Way, one of the many routes from the valleys’ lead mines to the early smelt mill at Dukesfield, near Slaley.

COINCIDING with the British Open Golf Championship, have a go yourself at Allendale Golf Club.

There’s open golf from 5pm until 7pm, on Tuesday, July 14, and everyone’s welcome to go along whether young or older, experienced or not,to see what it’s all about.
