THE oil buying co-operative’s deadline for orders this month, is noon on Tuesday, August 11.

ON Saturday, August 15, it’s the Allendale Agricultural Show, first established in 1839, and it’s billed, with due cause, to be the “North’s premier village show”!

As well as sheep, horse and dog classes, there will be trade stands, displays, wrestling, terrier racing, quoits, a tug o’ war competition and plenty more to keep all the family occupied.

A bar and disco immediately follow the show, so be there, or miss a great day out.

THEN, on Saturday, August 22, it’s the 162nd Allendale Horticultural and Industrial Show at Allendale Primary School, when the BBC’s Colin Briggs will be handing out the prizes for all those astonishing fruit and vegetable entries, art works, photography, craft and baked goods.

There’s also a fancy dress competition, sale, displays and music, as well as refreshments – another fantastic day out.

A FEW people have commented – and I can’t help noticing myself – that there seems to be an increasing number of drivers parking on pavements in such a way as to completely block them.

This is not very thoughtful and, indeed, dangerous for pedestrians. A little consideration would be most welcome.
