LAST weekend’s Allen Valleys Folk Festival was, again, an overall rip-roaring success with hundreds of people enjoying an amazing array of talent at its various venues.

Many thanks go to the organisers and to the volunteers who made this tremendous event work!

THERE were a couple of very interesting items at last week’s parish council.

One was the response to the crossing petition, as mentioned last week, in that our county councillor, Colin Horncastle has found funds to provide a traffic island to assist crossing. I’m sure this will be a great help to many people.

The other was a proposal to open a sci-fi museum right here in Allendale: several councillors seemed quite enthusiastic about this though planning permissions will have to be sought!

THE recent coffee morning at the Old Post Office at Sinderhope raised an amazing £641 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Grateful thanks go to everyone who helped and supported.

AT St Cuthbert’s Church hall on Saturday, October 17, there will be a harvest supper and quiz night with prizes, a raffle and fun.

It starts at 7.30pm and you can get tickets from Sylvia Milburn telephone (01434) 683237, Norma Spratt on (01434) 685021 or at Allendale Post Office.

ON Tuesday, October 13, Catton Chapel will be hosting a Messy Church for adults. And why not? It’s theme is ‘baking bread together’, it starts at 7.30pm and everyone’s welcome.

I’M on a wee break away so, for the next two editions, please contact Peter Aldcroft at peteraldcroft@gmail.com or drop a note into The Old Oaks on Arnison Terrace.
