ALLENDALE Primary School is staging a summer show called Musical Memories , featuring songs from theatre and film.

Tickets are available from the school. Performances will take place on Monday, July 13, at 1.15pm and 6pm, and Tuesday, July 14, at 9.30am.

EFFORTS to protect red squirrels in the Allen Valleys have stepped up a gear since the new year, with Red Squirrels Northern England contractor Kevin Barber working hard to remove grey squirrels from woodlands.

THERE’S a new stableford competition at Allendale Golf Club tomorrow.

Called the Golf in the Wild Open , it reflects the title of treasurer Robin Down’s new book and offers generous cash prizes as well as liquid prizes for longest drive, nearest the pin and lowest gross score. All proceeds go to club funds.

ALLEN Valleys’ residents can request a free garden survey from one of 30 Nectaworks’ volunteers. Their job is to look for bumblebees and bee-friendly flowers in your garden, using the results to help you make your patch a better place for bees.

DOUG Ness was enrolled as Allendale Lions’ new president at a handover celebration last Sunday at the Cowshill Hotel.

Doug is the eighth Lions’ president and follows Sylvia Milburn, who held the post for an eventful two years.

THE Eabhal gig at Allendale Village Hall was really vibrant with an impromptu ceilidh to boot! The barefooted Wilf Stone was also very engaging as support.

Try to catch Alistair Anderson and Northlands, his new band, at the village hall on Thursday, July 16, at 7.30pm. Tickets on the door. Alistair is a master of the English concertina and a fine performer on the Northumbrian Pipes.

The following week Bogstock returns to the Carts Bog Inn, Langley, with 20 real ales, 15 ciders, a hog roast and four band line-up on Saturday, July 24, and Sunday, July 25. For tickets, telephone (01434) 684338.
