MORE than 30 Allen Valleys residents answered a rallying call over the weekend, when they turned out in numbers to clear snow away from Allendale Primary School.

Headteacher Alison Hawkins said: "To enable us to open the school safely on Monday, we needed help, because all of the paths were blocked, there were mounds of snow everywhere, and there was nowhere to park cars.

"Staff, parents, governors, pupils, and other volunteers came together with tractors and shovels, and did a great job.

"There was a wonderful spirit among the group, and I just want to thank everyone involved because without their help, I don't think we could have opened the school safely on Monday."
