THE centre of Allendale has been given an injection of colour as part of a community project.
Local volunteer Malcolm Aitchison has constructed two wooden planters which have been located at the Glendinning Memorial, just off Shilburn Road.
The memorial commemorates the death of Trooper John Joseph Glendinning, who died during the Second Boer War in 1902. A third planter has been placed in the Market Place.
Mr Aitchison built the planters with timber donated by Hexham’s MKM Business Supplies.
Allendale Parish Council has also supported the scheme and provided soil and plants.
Parish councillor Geoff Lee said: “Some of the planters in Allendale needed to be replaced and now we have something colourful and attractive for the summer ahead.
“We are grateful to Malcolm and to MKM, and would be pleased to hear from any volunteers keen to help with maintenance of the planters.”
