For hundreds of years, Hexham Abbey has been the place to hold an event.

The venue’s Great Hall played host to elegant parties in the 1820s, thrown by the town’s Beaumont family.

Nearly 200 years later, the venue is still the perfect setting for any event, featuring an ornately decorated ceiling, and five large south facing windows overlooking the Abbey grounds.

Now you have a chance to experience it for yourself this winter, as the Abbey is running a series of competitions.

From afternoon tea for two to special discounts on bookings, there are all sorts of exciting offers to get hold off.

All you have to do to enter is 'like' Hexham Abbey on Facebook, and keep an eye out for their next fantastic offer.

Centrally located, with a focus on local and community needs, the Abbey is ideal for wedding receptions, christenings, conferences, banquets, musical performances, ceilidhs and parties.

General Manager Owen Mills said: “Since joining Hexham Abbey a few months ago, I am surprised at how many people don’t realise what a great venue we have on offer for events and functions.

“Of course, it’s our job to market and promote the venue more. But the best way we can do that is often word of mouth, so we are keen to offer very competitive pricing to get more people using the facility.”

As well as its ornate, historical features, the Abbey is constantly being improved by Owen and the team, with a new bar being installed to expand the venue’s capacity for large functions, as well as the future addition of acoustically lined curtains to help with sound quality for performances and larger gatherings.

Catering can even be provided through the celebrated Refectory Cafe, with a variety of menu options from simple finger buffets to multi-course dinners.

As well the Great Hall, the Abbey also has a number of other areas including the Wilfrid Room, Etheldreda Room and Prior’s Hall - which can be hired individually or as one package.

“I do a lot of these kind of meetings and events and without a doubt Hexham Abbey is one of the best bookings I’ve made, both in terms of how stunning the venue is and also how helpful and friendly the team there has been,” said Faye Smeaton, of NHS Northumberland.
