POLICE are urging motorists not to leave valuables on display in their cars after two break-ins along the Military Road on Friday.

A BMW parked in a lay-by at Chollerford was targeted by thieves, between midday and 4pm, when a window was smashed, but nothing was taken from inside.

However, an iPad, rucksack and a number of gift items were taken from a Vauxhall Corsa while it was in the car park at Housesteads Roman Fort between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.

Officers say both cars had foreign number plates and they can‘t rule out that the two incidents were linked.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in either area at the time is asked to report it to police on 101 ext 69191.
