ONE of the top three attendances in the history of Northumberland County Show was recorded on Monday as more than 26,000 people poured through the gates at Bywell.

Only narrowly beaten by over 27,000 visiting the event at Tynedale Park during a heat wave in 2010 and the final year at Corbridge in 2012, the figures are the best recorded at the show's new home near Stocksfield.

"I'm absolutely thrilled with how its all gone," said event organiser, Judy Willis. "It's the second year in a row we've had no major queues of traffic, so I think we've cracked that one, and the weather really has been kind to us."

In his first year as chairman of Tynedale Agricultural Society, the organisation which puts on the show, James Wardle from Haydon Bridge paid tribute to the show committee and army of volunteers who make it possible.
