ENVIRONMENT Agency flood alerts remain in place along the River Tyne, between Hexham and Wylam, after a weekend which brought heavy rainfall and soaring river levels.

Areas of Haydon Bridge, Haltwhistle, Ovingham and Corbridge, were among those worst affected by flooding, with reports standing water was covering farmland and leaving local roads impassable.

On Sunday, the Well Bank area of Corbridge was made the subject of a flood warning, along with riverside areas in Prudhoe and Bywell.

Residents are being warned to remain vigilant to the risk of flooding, even though rainfall last night was not as heavy as expected.
