POLICE have made two arrests in connection with a fatal crash on the A69 near Hexham in the early hours of this morning.

Officers investigating the incident, which claimed the life of a 20-year-old local man, say a 27-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and are currently in custody helping with inquiries.

The crash happened at just after 1am, one mile east of the town's Bridge End roundabout.

Emergency services attended and found an overturned car in the eastbound carriageway.

The identity of the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, is yet to be confirmed as relatives are still being informed.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a Vauxhall Astra and a Renault Clio car being driven around on the A69 or in Hexham town centre yesterday evening and into the early hours of this morning.
