ROLLING road closures  up to 14 hours long  will  be in place when the Aviva Tour of Britain sweeps through Tynedale on Thursday.

In Prudhoe, the road in front of the Waterworld Leisure Centre, Stonyflat Bank will be closed from midnight to 2pm on Thursday September 10 for the start of Stage 5. 

Station Road and South Road will be open till 10am and diversions will be in place in and around the town allowing residents access to routes including the A695.

On race days, cars must not be parked anywhere that causes an obstruction on the routes, areas of parking restrictions will be clearly marked - any such vehicles or obstructions may be removed to allow the race to proceed safely.

Measures will be in place to ensure that emergency hospital access is maintained and to enable other emergencies to be dealt with. During road closures, some diversions will be in place and traffic management officers will be on hand in towns and villages to help with any issues or queries.

All NHS services across the county will be running as usual. However people with planned GP or hospital appointments, and those visiting loved ones in hospital, are being advised to expect significant disruption around hospital sites including Hexham.

There will be no access to the hospital car parks during the road closures but pedestrian access will not be affected.

Northumberland County Council has said  road closures may affect bin collections on the route and in surrounding areas, but residents should put their bins out as normal, by 7am, on the day of collection. 

Day 2 – Prudhoe to Gilsland via Hexham and Haydon Bridge - Thursday 10th September 2015

Prudhoe: A full road closure will be in place on the B6395 from the east junction of the A695 (Prudhoe Bypass) during the following times;-

00:01 until 14:00 - east junction off the A695 to the traffic lights at Station Road B6395 for the purposes of building the start infrastructure from 04:00am 09:30 until 12:00 – from the traffic lights at Station Road B6395 to the junction with the west junction A695

Full parking restrictions will be in place on the full length of the B6395 for the duration of both road closures.

A temporary suspension of the one-way restriction on Tyne View Terrace will be in place for the duration of the road closure. A parking suspension will also be in place on the permitted parking bays to allow for two-way traffic

Riding Mill

Arrival time 11:20 The race will follow through the village from the A68, heading west towards Hexham along the A695

Hexham

Arrival time 11:30 The race will follow through the town from Corbridge Road A695 passing Hexham General Hospital and continuing over the roundabouts on to the B6305 Priestpopple, Battle Hill, Hencotes and turning left on to the Allendale Road at the traffic lights towards Lowgate.

A full road closure will be in place from Dean Street to Whetstone Bridge Road between 11:00 & 12:00

Full parking restrictions will be in place on this stretch of road for the duration of the road closure.

Hexham to Haydon Bridge

The race will leave Hexham on the B6305 Allendale Road, past Lowgate heading towards Allendale and will continue on this road bearing right at Branch End Farm then continuing until its junction with the B6295 at Langley crossroads, turning right then right again at its junction with the A686 heading towards Haydon Bridge.

Haydon Bridge

Arrival time 11:55

The race will turn left off the A686 down and under the A69 towards Shaftoe Street and John Martin Street. It will then turn left onto Ratcliffe Road crossing over the River Tyne and then right onto the B6319 heading onto North Bank and on to Hadrian’s Wall

A full road closure will be in place from both the east and west bound junctions of the A69 into the village to Walltown Quarry on the B6318 between 10:30am and 13:00pm

Full parking restrictions will be in place on Shaftoe Street and John Martin Street, Church Street and North Bank between 09:00 and 12:00

Hadrian’s Wall

Arrival time 12:05

The race will head towards Hadrian’s Wall crossing over the Stanegate at Grindon Crossroads continuing on until reaching the B6318 junction and turning left onto Hadrians Wall. The race will continue to travel along the B6318 towards Greenhead.

A full road closure will be in place from Walltown Quarry to Greenhead on B6318 between 11:45 and 13:00

Full parking restrictions will be in place on this stretch of road for the duration of the road closure.

Greenhead/Gilsland

Arrival time 12:30

The race will turn right in Greenhead remaining on to the B6318 and heading towards Gilsland. The race will leave Gilsland at 12:40 crossing over the border and into Cumbria.
