THE hysteria surrounding last winter’s Tour of Britain may have died down, but its legacy lives on within Tynedale.

For nine months after Bradley Wiggins and co pedalled through the centre of Haydon Bridge, the village is hoping its own cycling event will grow in popularity.

The fourth annual Haydon Hundred Cyclo Sportive – from the village to Alston and back – will take place on Saturday, June 4, with routes of 140km, 100km, and 60km to choose from.

The event, organised by the Haydon Bridge Development Trust, has already become a mainstay on the cycling calendar, with 300 partipants travelling from near and far last year.

The route ascends both slopes of the South Tyne Valley, crossing Hadrian’s Wall twice before heading for the spectacular panoramas of the North Pennines.
