AN OIL tanker overturned and fell 30ft down an embankment near Fourstones this week.
Police were called at just after 8.30am on Monday morning after the tanker, carrying heating oil, overturned between Fourstones and Warden while travelling towards Hexham.
Officers said the driver was shaken and suffered minor injuries after the vehicle came to a halt just yards from the railway track.
A stretch of the road through the village was closed between Fourstones Paper Mill and the filling station and remained shut until after dark on Monday, while fuel was removed from the Carrs Billington lorry.
The road was temporarily re-opened overnight, before being closed at 10am on Tuesday to allow the vehicle to be recovered. The road was then fully re-opened at 2pm on Tuesday.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 140 of 13/02/17.
