THE future of Haydon Bridge’s former fire station site still remains unclear.
Northumberland County Council closed the retained station in October, despite widespread opposition from local councillors and residents.
The 1960s building and grounds were put on the market, with prices being sought in the region of £150,000.
This week, the county council confirmed it was in negotiations with a preferred bidder for the site.
But the authority said it was unable to provide any further information at this stage.
Haydon Parish Council, which led a campaign against the closure of the fire station last year, has expressed fears in recent months that the site could be sold to a housing developer.
Councillors would prefer a community use to be found for the site.
