A LEADING North Tyne musician has produced a new song for children to sing at Saturday’s Bellingham Show.

Fiona Lander, one half of folk duo Landermason, has composed The Bellingham Show Song, which will be sung at the opening ceremony.

Split into sections, the song details all that local people love about their annual agricultural show.

The opening lyrics hark back to the show’s infancy in 1842, and references other historical milestones around the world which began in the same year.

It then chronicles the development of the show, how it started out at a venue behind the Cheviot Hotel and has grown into one of the district‘s largest shows.

Once Fiona came up with the idea, she received financial support from Northumberland County Council’s community chest fund..

She then wrote the song and produced a backing track, and has rehearsed the song with six first schools in the North Tyne Valley, Bellingham Middle School and adult singers from the area.

Fiona said: “With almost 60 children signed up to take part and every school being represented, plus 20 enthusiastic adult singers, the newly formed choir should bring something a bit different to this year’s programme.”

The song will be performed at 1pm, and again an hour later.
