A PUBLIC meeting will take place on Tuesday to update residents on plans for The Sill.

The get-together has been called as demolition contractors moved in to pull down the existing visitor centre at Once Brewed to make way for the new £14.8m landscape discovery centre.

Scheduled to open in 2017, The Sill is expected bring 100,000 visitors to the area each year, and also provide jobs.

Northumberland National Park Authority has called the meeting for residents to speak to scheme leaders and ask questions about the project.

Updates on road safety aspects of the development will also be given at the meeting.

National park authority chairman Coun. Glen Sanderson said it was improvement to consult with community organisations on the delivery of a varied activity programme at The Sill.

The public meeting will take place from 6pm to 8pm, at the Twice Brewed Inn, on the Military road. Hot drinks and refreshments will be served from 6pm, before presentations will be made from interested organisations, such as Northumberland County Council, the construction team from Sir Robert McAlpine, and the Youth Hostel Association.

Coun. Sanderson added: “This is a really exciting time for The Sill as demolition work begins and we move one step closer to the development becoming a reality.

“It’s vitally important to ensure local residents are kept updated as things progress and for us to provide opportunities for the community to have their say and get involved in different aspects of The Sill. The activity programme is developing at pace and we’re keen to engage with residents, community groups and businesses.”
