COMMUNITIES across Tynedale are being kept in the dark over vital public information because of Northumberland County Council's decision to stop statutory notices appearing in the Hexham Courant.

Instead the authority is spending public money on publishing details of local planning applications and road closures in the Alnwick-based Northumberland Gazette, which does not cover the Courant's core circulation area.

In doing so, the council is denying the Courant's 50,000-strong audience access to vital information affecting either themselves directly or their local communities.

This petition calls on the council to restart the publication of these notices in the Hexham Courant with immediate effect.
