MEDICS from the Great North Air Ambulance Service responded to two emergencies on Hadrian’s Wall at the weekend.

On Sunday, a 67-year-old man suffered a cardiac arrest at Housesteads Roman Fort, near Bardon Mill.

He was resuscitated at the scene by a doctor-led team from the air ambulance before being flown to Newcastle’s RVI in a critical but stable condition.

It followed a call on Saturday which saw a walker airlifted from a section of the Wall after suffering a leg injury.

The 49-year-old woman from the Jarrow area had fallen around two kilometres north of Haltwhistle.

The service’s Penrith-based helicopter was scrambled at 2.15pm and the woman was treated at the scene by a doctor and paramedic team, before being flown to hospital in Carlisle for treatment.
