PRUDHOE West First School may become the next in the district to leave county council control as it opts for academisation.

In an announcement made today, the school has proposed to join a multi-academy trust.

Last month a partnership between Prudhoe West First School and WISE Academies was agreed.

And on December 15 the Department for Education granted the school an academy order.

In a letter sent home to parents today, headteacher Carrie Davidson said that a consultation period would take place over the coming weeks.

The letter stated that joining the multi-academy trust (MAT) would bring a number of benefits to the school such as greater financial control, more autonomy and curriculum control.

The first school was rated as 'good' at its last inspection and says conversion to academy was a decision made in the best interests of the children.

The letter states: "We believe the benefits that will come from becoming part of WISE Academies Trust will assist us in improving pupil outcomes and on our journey towards an Outstanding judgement in our next inspection."

If the move goes ahead, Prudhoe West First School will become the sixth WISE Academy Trust school after Adderlane First School joined in November.

Two consultation forums will be held at which parents, carers and members of the community can speak with WISE representatives and Prudhoe West First School staff.

The forums will be held in the school's sports hall at 2.45pm on Monday, January 30 and 8.45am on Tuesday, January 31.

The consultation period begins today and will run until Friday, February 24.

Responses should be made in writing and sent to the school office or by email to admin@prudhoewest.northumberland.sch.uk
