BRITISH Transport Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was verbally abused and had a bottle thrown at him while travelling on a train on the Tyne Valley line.

Officers said the incident happened sometime between 3.10pm and 4.45pm as the train made its way from Newcastle to Carlisle.

The bottle was thrown as the train travelled between Brampton and Carlisle.

The group of six offenders, believed to have been in their twenties, were carrying luggage and some had beards.
