POLICE are investigating after a 75-year-old woman was knocked to the ground and left with an injured shoulder in Hexham.

It happened on Thursday, January 12 on Elvaston Road when a man ran into her as she was walking along the road with her husband at 3.20pm.

The man continued running and didn't stop when she fell to the ground, leaving her distressed and in need of treatment at Hexham General Hospital.

It's unclear why the man; described as white, in his late teens to early 20s, of slim build and around 6ft tall, was in such a hurry.

He is described as having pointed facial features and was wearing a grey hoody with the hood up, dark trousers and trainers.

Officers have been carrying out inquiries in the area and conducting house to house inquiries.

Neighbourhood Inspector Pam Bridges said: "We are appealing for witnesses to this incident. The man who was running along the pavement collided with the elderly lady and did not stop to check on her well-being.

"We would ask him to come forward so we can speak to him about this."

Anyone who may recognise the man from his description is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 584 of the 12/01/17.
