NEWBROUGH carpet bowls club played a match against Haydon Bridge last Wednesday evening.

The host team steamed ahead before supper and looked as if they were going to win by a large margin, but the visitors clawed their way back and closed the gap to make it a closer finish.

THERE will be a fund-raising event at the town hall tonight. Proceedings start at 7pm with the main event starting at 7.30pm. Entry is free.

WORLD Book Day at the school saw the children dressed up as their favourite characters from books. During the day they took part in reading, story writing and fantasy art work. At the end of the day they got together and acted out a story that they had written.

THANKS to everyone who helped at the bingo evening – £140 was raised and everyone had an enjoyable evening.

GOVERNORS visited Hallbankgate Primary School as part of the preparations for our year five intake in September.

They came back with lots of ideas about how we can make the curriculum and resources as exciting as possible for your children.

Class three will be writing letters to the year three, four, five and six pupils at Hallbankgate to find out more about how they learn together.

GARDENING club has started again for pupils in class three and will continue until Easter. If there is torrential rain, the session will be cancelled, but pupils can work in the shed if the rain is light.

CLASSES two and three attended Bellingham church to see the Knitted Bible exhibition. This is a display of various stories from the Bible portrayed by knitted characters.

Thank you to Deacon Anne Taylor for inviting the children. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition. There were a lot of beautifully made pieces depicting, in fine detail, some well known and not so well known Bible stories.

MRS Briddock is doing a fantastic job at after school club. As well as offering the children a healthy snack and time to play, she listens to pupils read. Miss Bell will continue to offer breakfast club from 8am-9am. Please contact the school office for contact details.

CLASS three will take part in Tynedale music festival this week.

THERE will be an Easter Eucharist in the school hall on Tuesday at 2pm led by the Rev. Jeremy Thompson.

The children are invited to decorate an egg or an Easter bonnet and bring it to school on this day. There will be a prize for the best egg and bonnet. Everyone is welcome.

HAS anyone else noticed the amount of rubbish building up in the hedgerows? Thank you to the gentleman who was making efforts to pick some of it up as we were driving down the Westwood Bank on Sunday.
