The bowls club played a match against Riding Mill at home last Wednesday evening and was pleased to win.

We joined in the RSPB birdwatch at the weekend and enjoyed watching the sparrows, goldfinches, pigeons and numerous other birds feeding in our garden.

We always supply food for our feathered friends, but don’t often just sit and watch them. It was lovely to take an hour out of the day to enjoy watching our local nature.

There will be a pancake celebration in Newbrough Primary School on Sunday morning. Children and adults will be involved in the event, which will include singing, prayers and a race.

Apparently a lot of litter is being left lying around the cricket pitch. Members have been cleaning up after chip cartons and bottles, and even radiators have been left in the area.

It is hoped the culprits, or someone who knows them, will read this and have the decency to take their litter home instead of leaving it for someone else to clear up.
