A PARENT and teacher duo teamed up for a coast-to-coast cycle ride last weekend to raise funds for learning resources at a Stamfordham pre-school.

Caroline Brown, mum of two-year-old Summer who attends Stampers Pre-school, decided to do the 140-mile Coast to Coast route from Whitehaven to Tynemouth after being impressed with the support she received with Summer.

Pre-school leader Siobhan Stephenson agreed to join her on the route, which they completed over the weekend of May 13-14.

Caroline (41) said: “Siobhan has given support and communication about any issues.

“She is on the ball and she and the other staff do an absolutely wonderful job.

“Summer is not at the usual milestones for her age for speech and development.

“I have found the school have given me the resources for learning that she needs. Northumberland has limited help available and I’ve come up against brick walls in trying to get help in the past.”

Caroline and Siobhan completed the route as part of a group, joined by Barry Jameson of coaching company Tri4u.

“I didn’t think I would be able to do it and I thought ‘we are never going to make dinner’, but we did,” explained Siobhan.

“It was good weather and it was really exciting when we saw the sea at the other end.”

Siobhan hopes they will raise £600 to buy two second-hand iPads, an Apple TV box and a wall-mounted screen, which will allow the children to access educational and early years apps.
