A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a crash near Byrness.
At around 7.45 this morning emergency services were alerted to a collision on the A68.
Police, fire crews and paramedics rushed to the scene, around two miles north of the village of Byrness.
An Audi car travelling south on the road appears to have collided with a number of other vehicles.
The driver of the Audi, a 32-year-old man, was airlifted to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries.
Two people from another car, a Land Rover, were taken to Northumberland Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington with minor injuries.
The road was closed for three hours following the collision.
Police are now appealing for witnesses, anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101, quoting reference number, 163 25/11/16.
