AN Early Day Motion has been tabled by Blyth Valley’s MP Ronnie Campbell, calling for an independent review into changes made by Northumberland County Council to Active Northumberland, which runs its leisure facilities, and the development arm Arch.

Northumberland Labour leader Grant Davey and Conservative councillor Nick Oliver both welcomed the motion.

Coun. Oliver said: “We welcome Ronnie Campbell’s early day motion calling for an independent review of Arch and Active Northumberland.

“Since forming the administration in May and carrying out our own reviews we have found an alarming lack of governance and some serious issues of probity. I can’t give detail because they are subject to police investigation.”

Coun. Davey added: “I back Ronnie Campbell’s call for a transparent and open review of the decisions taken by the new administration, especially in relation to the charity Active Northumberland and the company Arch.

“Northumberland Labour group is seeking substantive answers from the chief executive officer in relation to specific issues in the Active report produced by Engage-n-Change,” he said.

Engage-n-Change carried out a review into Active Northumberland and produced a damming report into the way the service was being run.
