A POLICE inquiry is under way after a man exposed himself to a dog walker in Healey Woods. 

Northumbria Police are appealing for information following an indecent exposure incident which took place at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, April 26. 

A 57-year-old woman was walking her dog in Healey Woods near Riding Mill. 

She was approached by a man, believed to be in his early 50s, who then exposed himself to her.

Neighbourhood Inspector, Kevin Oates, said: "The woman was left upset by what happened and as soon as the report came into us we had officers in the area making inquiries and searching the area. 

"This appears to be an isolated incident. However, I would urge people in the area to be vigilant." 

Inquiries to identify the man are under way and anyone with information is asked to contact police.

The man is described as white, of large build and around 6 feet tall.

He had short grey hair and was wearing a dark blue sweatshirt with grey trousers. 

Insp. Oates said: "I'd like to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area and saw anyone matching the description or acting suspiciously to contact us with that information. 

"We will have officers revisiting the area."
