A RESPECTED stalwart of the Prudhoe community is leaving Tynedale next year.

The Rev. Charles Hope has accepted a new role at Keswick St John and Borrowdale.

The father of three expects to take up the position in May and says he will very much remain a presence in East Tynedale until then.

Mr Hope became the vicar of St Mary Magdalene Church in Prudhoe in 2003 and quickly established himself within the community, joining Prudhoe Community Partnership in 2004.

He is currently chairman of the partnership and says he will miss both the area and his involvement in community life.

He said: "I've lived in Northumberland longer than I've lived in any other region and I will miss it.

"Taking the role was a hard decision to make - I've got so many friends over here, I've been so involved in the life of the church and the community and my family are rooted here.

"I've really enjoyed my time in Prudhoe and I consider it a privilege to be a part of the town.

"I'm not moving until May and I'm still very much here and looking forward to Christmas and planning things for next year and Easter."

Since the announcement was made by the church of Keswick St John via Facebook on Sunday, many have taken to the social media site to congratulate the Rev. Hope.

Peter Metcalfe wrote: "Congratulations Charles; so sad that you're leaving.

"I'm excited for you all; I'm sure you'll love Keswick.

"You'll be missed by so many people here in Prudhoe.

Charlie Wales wrote: "Congratulations. You were a comfort and help through difficult times and will be missed."
