“HEY council, leave our school alone,” sang the pupils of Newbrough Primary School this week.

The school has recorded its own version of the classic Pink Floyd hit, Another Brick in the Wall .

Published on You Tube on Tuesday, the video had been viewed over 1,000 times within 24 hours.

Headteacher Jo Trotter said the song gave pupils a voice during the consultation on education reform in west Northumberland.

She said: “We really wanted the children to have a voice, and it was also an opportunity for them to take positive action, and to have some fun too.”

No fewer than 57 pupils played their part in the song. Some played instruments, alongside parents and staff. Re-written lyrics included ‘we all need an education’, and ‘we all need our local school’.

Mrs Trotter added: “We’ve all worked together as a team, and the end result is a first class video. Well done to all involved. This is a fairly simple song to sing, but it delivers a powerful message.”

Newbrough is at risk of closure in the third of three options put forward by the county council.
