HAYDON Bridge’s fire station site could be sold off for less than £150,000, raising fears it could be used for housing.

Estate agent Bradley Hall confirmed this week there has already been some interest in the 0.55-acre site, which includes the 1960s station and drill tower.

And the Durham-based firm has declared that the station, next door to allotments in Station Road, “may be suitable for development”.

An advert for the sale of Haydon Bridge fire station on the Bradley Hall website makes reference to its prominent location, close to shops, schools, health centre and railway station.

It adds: “The site is to be sold by way of freehold with offers in the region of £150,000.

“The site may be suitable for development subject to planning permission.

“Subject to obtaining the relevant consents it is considered the site has potential for alternative uses or redevelopment.”

A spokesman for Bradley Hall said there has been “some interest” in the site, but was unable to provide further details.

It comes just two weeks after Northumberland County Council announced that the fire station, which is due to close in the autumn, will be sold.
