The Interact Club – a junior offshoot of Rotary International – at the former home of the Bowes-Lyon family have raised around £1,500 over the past year, which is the biggest total in the group’s eight year history.
Although the club only has 17 members, they worked exceptionally hard to raise the cash, with a variety of events, including packing bags at Tesco in Hexham, and having a stall at the late night Christmas shopping event in Corbridge.
On a less conventional note, club member Elizabeth Gray had her head shaved to boost funds, and members also ran up and down the stairs at Ridley Hall to the equivalent height of climbing Ben Nevis to highlight the fact that cancer is a battle that nobody should face alone.
Ridley also maintained its title in the district bowling competition for Interact groups in Rotary district 1030.
The club has also had support from the very top, hosting the Rotary International national president at one of its meetings.
Club president Catherine Gray said: “I am very proud of what the club has achieved this year in raising this record total.”
The hard work paid off at the Interact Club’s annual barbecue at Ridley Hall, when £1,400 was distributed to good causes.
