HAYDON Bridge High School is in line for a facelift after an £80,000 grant from the Department for Education.
The grant, secured by the Bright Tribe Trust, will cover the cost of redecorating the school hall, reception and corridors with a fresh coat of paint, new ceiling tiles and replacement flooring.
Simon Evans, operations director at Bright Tribe, which is planning to take over the school later this year, said: “Our objective is to create a great school environment for students and we can begin this transformation with this grant.”
He added that, like many schools built in the 1960s, Haydon Bridge was showing signs of historic under-investment.
“A grant of this nature will allow work to be done which will have an immediate impact on the school environment, which in turn will promote greater aspiration in the school,” he said.
“This initial facelift will be the catalyst for a rolling capital improvement programme funded by the annual capital allocated to Bright Tribe Trust by the Education Funding Agency.”
