A WARDEN parish councillor is hoping to bring an alternative voice to politics in his bid to win the Green Party’s first seat on Northumberland County Council.

Having previously lived in Prudhoe, where he attended the high school, Wesley Foot moved to Warden around seven years ago, where he now lives with his partner, Laura, and their two sons.

He was prompted to join the parish council last year after wanting to become more involved in politics and spotting what he called “a need for change”.

The self-employed heating engineer is now standing for the Humshaugh Ward at the county council elections in May, where he hopes he will be able to give the people of Tynedale a new approach to politics.

“We have been talking to people on the doorstep and a lot of people seem to be concerned about the lack of democracy. Tynedale seems to get a short straw too often,” he said.

“The Green Party believe very strongly in localism, bringing power down to the local area, which means more power for town and parish councils.”

For Tynedale, Coun. Foot explained this means the Green Party would support the broadening of the West Area Committee and would like the West Area Planning Committee to be brought back, meaning planning decisions would be made in Hexham rather than in Morpeth.

Green Party candidates will be standing for 10 seats in Tynedale, with Humshaugh being their target ward for a seat on Northumberland County Council.

David Grundey will be standing for Hexham West, while Barbara Grundey and Sarah Stovell are standing for Hexham Town Council.
