GCSE students have excelled in a year which saw the introduction of a new, numerical grading system in English and maths, with nine being the highest grade, and one the lowest.
At Hexham’s Queen Elizabeth High School, 80 per cent of students achieved grades nine to four.
At Ponteland High School, 79 per cent of students achieved at least a standard pass in both English and maths; while 89 per cent reached grade four or better in English.
More than 80 per cent of Prudhoe High School students reached grades of four or higher in English, while 72 per cent achieved the same scores in maths.
Haydon Bridge High School reported a significant improvement on last year’s results in French, drama, science and business.
