A FATHER and daughter will host fund-raising events in aid of a cause close to their hearts this weekend.

More than 40 people will take part in an over-30s football tournament at Bardon Mill FC on Saturday at 2.30pm.

The three-team competition has been organised by local man Scott Makepeace, to raise vital funds for the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle (CHUF).

As part of the day, Scott’s nine-year-old daughter Chloe Makepeace will hold a mini-fair at the football ground.

It will include homemade cakes baked by volunteers, including Chloe herself.

The youngster sent handwritten letters to 40 local businesses, who responded by supplying raffle and tombola prizes.

The fund-raising mission will start on Friday, when Chloe and her fellow pupils at Henshaw C of E Primary School will take part in a bake sale and non-uniform day.

Scott said: “This is a cause which is close to our hearts and we are looking forward to what should be a good weekend.”
