POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the A69 near Hexham.
Officers received reports at just after 1am this morning that a car had overturned, one mile east of the Bridge End Roundabout.
Emergency services attended the scene and found the car had rolled over in the eastbound carriageway. The driver was declared dead at the scene.
It's believed a second vehicle may have been involved in the crash, but failed to stop.
The eastbound carriageway of the A69 was closed between Hexham and Stagshaw, near Corbridge, until 8.30am to allow for the scene to be examined by motor patrols officers.
Officers would like to speak with the occupants of the second vehicle or anyone in the area at the time who may be able to help with the investigation.
