The shortlist for the ceremony, which will be held in Newcastle on November 16, was announced last week and includes a dozen of the district’s most popular visitor destinations.
Among them are the popular Barrasford Arms pub and the Battlesteads Hotel and Restaurant at Wark, who secured a hat-trick of nominations each.
The team at Haydon Bridge-based Wild Dog Outdoors, South Tynedale Railway, Kirkley Hall, and the accommodation at Kielder Waterside, as well as the facilities at Kielder Water and Forest Park, are all given a name check in the 15 categories.
Sarah Stewart, chief executive at destination management and marketing organisation NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “The tourism sector continues to thrive in the North-East of England.
“It’s a credit to the region that five of our businesses went on to win at the VisitEngland Awards last year and we’re hopeful of further success this year.”
The tourism awards play a key role in showcasing the range of tourism businesses and experiences the North-East has to offer visitors, and 53 applications from across the region made it onto this year’s shortlist.
All of the shortlisted applicants will also have the chance to enter the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2018 – which last year saw the Battlesteads pick up a gold award.
Head of leisure, strategy and transformation at Northumbrian Water David Hall said: “We are delighted to be able to support these awards for the sixth year in a row.
“They showcase the very best the North-East has to offer those visiting, living and working in the region.”
