A PLAQUE could go up in Haydon Bridge to commemorate the village’s retained firefighters.

Haydon Bridge’s retained fire station closed in October, having served the community since the 1960s.

Speaking at a meeting of Haydon Parish Council on November 24, Coun. Jo Thompson said: “How about a plaque to commemorate the fire crews from the past right up to the recent closure of the fire station?”

Councillors discussed the possibility of a plaque going up at the fire station site, or at the Bridge Community Library.

The fire station is set to be sold by Northumberland County Council.
