DWINDLING to just five regular customers, Lloyds Bank in Corbridge is to close.

The Middle Street branch is to be shut down on March 14.

Making the announcement this week, Lloyds Bank say that the decision to close their Corbridge branch was a difficult one.

In recent years the opening hours of the village branch had drastically reduced.

Currently it operates only from 9.30am to 1pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Lloyds say that the bank was earmarked for closure due to a drop in footfall at the branch.

They say approximately 93 per cent of customers already use alternative branches such as the Hexham branch.

And according to the bank, the Middle Street branch has only five regular weekly personal and business customers.

A spokesperson said: "We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause and have informed customers of the closest alternative branch, which is in Hexham."

Lloyds say that customers will have their accounts realigned to Hexham and that they will 'proactively' talk to customers about services available at Corbridge Post Office.
