TYNEDALE community groups are lined up for a funding boost from the Co-op.

A total of 23 causes from around the district are earmarked to receive funding from the Co-op’s membership scheme.

The scheme means that whenever a Co-op member buys own-brand products, or works with Funeralcare, they earn a five per cent reward for themselves and a one per cent reward for local good causes.

The average pay-out to local groups from the first round of the membership scheme in April was £2,210.

The groups set to receive funding from the Co-op include Tynedale Hospice at Home, Bellingham Youth and Education Centre and Haydon Bridge and Haydon Parish Development Trust.

Chief membership officer at the Co-op, Rufus Olins, said: “The more people shop, the more we share and we’d really like to increase the amounts that we pay out.

“By voting for the good causes that they want to support, our members are telling us what really matters in their communities.”
