TEN boys from Haydon Bridge High School have raised £1,200 after undergoing a sponsored head shave in memory of their classmate Rhya Story.
The popular 14-year-old, from Greenhead, lost her battle against an inoperable brain tumour in October last year.
Rhya, who was a promising young footballer, was in the same PE class as several of the boys who took on the challenge.
The money will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, which supported Rhya.
Former Haydon Bridge pupil Millie Robinson, who has recently received a nationally-acclaimed barbering award, was handed the task of clipping the boys' hair.
PE teacher Adrian Irving joined them on stage, and had his legs waxed as part of the fund-raising mission, with the support of Simone Allchome, of The Beauty Room at Alston.
