A FAMOUS face on our television screens, celebrity chef John Burton Race has been appointed chef-in-residence at Otterburn Castle Hotel.

The two-Michelin starred chef, well-known for many stints on TV throughout his 30-year career in the kitchen, will take over the kitchen at the Grade II listed hotel’s Oak Room Restaurant throughout September, introducing a new seasonal a la carte menu in addition to daily specials.

Recently spotted on BBC series The Great British Menu and MasterChef as well as ITV reality show I‘m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, he has worked with some of the world’s top chefs.

Now he is excited for a new challenge in rural Northumberland.

He said: “I have visited Otterburn many times as a guest and fallen in love with the castle, the people and the spectacular region.

”I’ve always believed the best food you can eat is fresh and from on your own doorstep so where better to bring that to the plate than Otterburn Castle?“

His illustrious career began working for renowned chef Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Buckinghamshire.

He then went on to work at some of the country’s top restaurants including Quaglino’s, Hotel Meurice London and La Sorbonne before winning his first Michelin star at Blanc’s Le Petit Blanc in Oxford in 1996.

Burton Race opened his own restaurant L’Ortolan in Berkshire, winning two Michelin stars, a feat he repeated at his second venue at the Landmark Hotel in 2000.

A spokesman for Otterburn Castle said: “We’re delighted to have a chef as experienced, talented and unique as John Burton Race bringing Michelin star quality dining to Otterburn.”
