AN ELDERLY couple have been forced to move out of their home after a car crashed through their living room wall.

Fire crews rushed to the scene on Stanley Crescent, in Prudhoe, at 10.15pm on Sunday.

The Vauxhall car narrowly missed the elderly couple who were sitting inside at the time.

Though uninjured, they have been left shocked by the incident and have had to leave whilst repair work is carried out.

A 36-year-old man from Prudhoe has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving while under the influence of excess alcohol, no insurance and no driving licence.

He is due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates Court on August 12.
